Interview with Romance Author Larry Hammersley

Please write a brief bio in 3rd person, about 5 sentences. You can tell us how many books you have written, how many children you have, etc. It’s up to you. Larry is age 78, married for 54 years, has two children and seven grandchildren.  He has three novels, two nonfiction books, and several short romance stories all available on Amazon.  He has two romance novels for which he is seeking acceptance at two different publishing companies.  He has a B.S. and M.S. in chemistry from Purdue and Indiana University respectively.

Welcome to my blog, Larry. Please tell us about your novel: Marcy’s Struggle.

For those who have read my romance novel, A Change of Heart will recognize Marcy as a minor character from that novel.  Since she lost the battle for Leroy’s heart, she seeks romance with the quarterback at Purdue where she is working on her PhD in chemistry.  This story is cast into the early 1960s.

Where did you get your inspiration for this story?

I liked the character of Marcy and felt sorry for her so I wanted to write a story where she finds romance.  She overcomes the obstacles standing in her and Ross, the quarterback’s way.

I read A Change Of Heart and loved it. So now Marcy gets her own story. What kind of research did you do?

My background in chemistry helped me to write about Marcy going for her PhD.  Although I didn’t get a PhD myself I know what the grad students must go through to get their degree such as synthesis of a new compound, the fact she must face an oral exam before professors and other requirements.

Tell me about the main character and what you love about her.

Marcy is beautiful, intelligent, faces problems with determination, has deep felt emotions, is persistent in convincing Ross of her love for him and faces danger in her research where she is hurt in an explosion.

Where is your website and blog so my readers can check out your recent and past books that you have written?

My books are available on Amazon by typing in my name, Larry Hammersley which would be the easiest way to find the books.  My writings are available via several publishers including Wild Rose Press, Wings e-Press, Champagne Books (Burst Books division), Rebecca Vickery Publishing, Create Space, Smashwords and one free read short story, Ice Rink Romance located at www.read-a-romance.com/contemporary_romance/ice-rink-romance/. It is currently in second place in voting at 4.2 stars.

Thank you for this interview, Larry. It’s so fun to learn about men who write clean romances for us to read. I hope my followers will check out your new book.

This looks like good book, but do I need to know Chemistry? :)

Great interview, Linda and Larry, and a very interesting premise for your book, Larry. Marcy is a good character in "A Change of Heart" and I imagine she will be a fantastic heroine. Looking forward to reading "Marcy's Struggle". Best wishes to you for many sales!

Thanks Diane and Gina. No, you don't have to know chemistry. There is that in the story and Marcy is a real brain. I hope you will find it was necessary for me to concentrate on chemistry a bit to develop Marcy's character. Ross feels this is one of the barriers for their romance.

Hi Linda and Larry,

Thanks so much for the interview. I've read several of Larry's books and have enjoyed them immensely. Larry writes with lots of emotion, making his characters come to life. I've found his books refreshingly different.

Hywela: Thank you for coming over in response to my invite. I liked the character Marcy and felt sorry for her so I gave her romance with the quarterback who was also in my romance novel.

Gail: Thank you for always supporting me. Your kind words about my characters and emotions are appreciated. I really felt sorry for Marcy in that she lost out to Jody for Leroy's heart. In that first novel she started dating Ross the quarterback and her struggle to convince Ross she was over Leroy was a problem. also, thank you for spreading the word.

Larry, I'm glad you wrote a book about Marcy. I liked her a lot in A CHANGE OF HEART. She was a great character and a good friend to Jody when I'm sure it was difficult. I enjoyed the interview! Great job, Linda and Larry!

Thanks Jean602 and Diane for dropping by. I felt sorry for Marcy and wanted her to find romance with Ross. It was a rough road for her with Ross doubting her and her having to compete with the drum major and National Anthem singer, two lovely women, at the football games.

Larry Hammersley has a way with description, making the reader feel as if they are right there. And his characters are real enough to fly off the page.

I add my congrats to Larry for writing about Marcy. I've read several of Larry's books, and enjoy his writings. It's awesome to find a man who cares enough to write clean romance, and to concentrate on the heart and emotions and the personal side of the characters.

Hi Linda: Thank you for attending another interview of mine. I appreciate your continuing support.
Miss Mae: Your words are very encouragment concerning my writing, your reading of my stories and noticing my concentrating on my character's feelings. That is what I always hope to do.
Hi Anne: Marcy's Struggle is a spin off of my first romance novel, A Change of Heart. Marcy deserved a story of its own even though it is short.
